Katie Akers
Hi! Katie Akers here, and I’ve been a lover of the art and stage since the 1st grade. Since my role as “Red Riding Hood’s Basket”, the stage has been my passion. After my B.F.A from Wayne State University in Acting and a minor in Musical Theatre, I was the female acting/administrative intern for Meadow Brook Theatre for their 2019/2020 season.
You may have seen me in productions at Meadow Brook Theatre (Edith- Blithe Spirit), The Ringwald Theatre (Summer Eve- Jingle Babs), or Thumbcoast Theatres (Ensemble- Fiddler on the Roof). I just produced my first Cabaret, “Typecast: New Dawn Rising”, with roaring success this August.
You can currently see me in Rochester University’s Shakespeare Upon Avon’s production of “The Winter’s Tale” this September.
Lessons!
Music Theory | Acting | Singing
Have you ever wanted to improve your skillset as a performer and musician?
You can work with me in my personal studio! Or if you are a Berkley Choir student, in your choir classes!
For Music Theory, let me help you gain a basic understanding and knowledge of music, focused on application in the musical theatre and theatre world! Students can be expected to learn all the basic and intermediate skills when it comes to reading, writing, and performing music, with a specific focus on improving sight-reading techniques.
For Acting, students can expect 1:1 coaching for auditions, school programs, and shows, with knowledge from schooling, as well as real- world experiences. Great for beginner and intermediate students looking to hone in, dive in, or see what the world of the stage is all about!
For Singing, perfect for beginner or intermediate voices, expect practice on building a repertoire, warm-up techniques to increase the quality of your range, and performance/audition aid.
Reviews

— Mike Danaj, Wayne State Theatre BFA sophmore
“She’s a blessing!”
-Samantha Stafford, Wayne State Theatre BA senior
“Katie Akers is an awesome teacher and musician, she is so positive and upbeat while teaching and has a lot of tricks up her sleeve! As someone who already had a basic understanding of music theory, I never felt like she was teaching me, more like we were having weekly conversations about music theory and how it works! Highly recommend!!
— Alice Duffy, Wayne State Theatre BFA senior
